Creating A Sustainable Workforce
Working in the mental health world comes with a lot of pressure. Often a lot of people depend on you to turn up for work every day. And while this is part of the work we do, unfortunately too many clinicians have experienced workplaces which push clinicians to their limits and provide little support. This is the recipe for burn out.
Here at The Wattle Tree Clinic we are determined to do it differently. We are committed to improving the longevity of our workforce, because burnout is a problem that needs to be solved collectively, not individually. Because both as a sector and a service we can only help people if we have clinicians to do the helping.
Our Values In Action
Our values aren’t just principles we use when it comes to seeing clients or advertising for referrers. They’re also what guide us in our every day operations, from informing policies and procedures, to guiding management decisions and all staff communications. Because we don’t believe in the difference between our public offerings vs. behind-the-scenes. At Wattle, we treat our staff like we’d treat a client.
Grounded & Relatable
Working in the youth mental health sector can be hard. It’s rewarding, but it’s also demanding and emotionally exhausting. And, work is only ONE part of your very big life. We will remind you of this constantly.
Creative & Critical Thinkers
We believe that it’s possible to create workplace practices that work for the clinic AND make people feel their BEST at work. Who says you have to struggle through work you’re not confident with? Or have to work 9 to 5? Or work through the summer holidays?
Compassionate & Inclusive
Everyone wants different things from their workspace. Some want regular catch-ups and lots of feedback and others want to be in & out as quick as possible. We love the diversity this brings, and are happy to support people in whatever way works best.

The Benefits
-
Being small means we can be agile, innovative and responsive. This also means we don’t suffer under multiple levels of management, there is no archaic HR department to deal with, and we don’t have to prove our worth to obscure funding committees. Our principal psychologist works alongside our team everyday, meaning problems are solved quickly and real-world feedback informs better practice.
-
Whether you’re trying to balance another job, just dipping your toe in private practice or trying to sort a work schedule around parent duties, we offer flexible hours to suit your life.
Want to work weekdays or weekends or mornings or late nights? Want to work with certain presentations or develop specific skills? We got you.
-
Here at The Wattle, we believe that psychology clinics have more to offer our community than hours of 1:1 care. We have goals to create new offerings, and extend our frame of work, all with the intent of being better and helping more. Being part of this, means opportunities to contribute in bigger ways and break out of the cycle of endless hours of therapy.
-
There’s nothing worse than having to chase referral paperwork, sort medicare rebates, schedule appointments or answer endless emails, all after a full day of appointments.
Our well established referral pathways, booking systems, policies and procedures and organisation structure all make the workflow.
-
Nothing like being thrown in the deep end and expected to swim. We’ve been there and got the postcard to prove it. It’s horrible.
At Wattle we walk you through it all, from start to finish. Our practice manager and principal psychologist are on hand five days a week to support you in the work you do. There’s also opportunities for individual and group supervision, and access to in-house CPD resources.
